Talented Leading Impact made a successful transition to metropolitan company with an impressive victory at Morphettville on Saturday, August 29.

An easy winner at Strathalbyn at his previous run, Leading Impact proved too for his rivals in the $55,000 Metricon Homes Handicap (1100m).

The Aaron Bain & Ned Taylor-trained four-year-old, an $11 chance, ridden by Jackson Murphy, scored by a neck from Brimarvi Rosemarie ($8.50) with Super Choice ($31), a half-length away third.

Leading Impact began well and Murphy angled him to settle third on the fence in the run to home turn.

The gelding shot through turning for home and grabbed a winning break past the 200-metre mark.

Trainer Aaron Bain said he was confident Leading Impact had more city wins ahead.

“He’s been really good winning two of three for our stable,” Bain said.

“I could make excuses for him first up as he got poleaxed at the 300-metre mark.

“We had thought of going for the black type Lightning (Stakes) but settled for an easy kill at Strathalbyn with him.

“He is a sharp horse and can be a nice city horse for some time.

“It is the first winner working in conjunction with our Angaston property and now our stables at Murray Bridge.

“We thank the ownership group of Headline Thoroughbreds from Hong Kong who have been great for our stable.

“The manager Mr Ma hasn’t been in the best of health, and we wish him well and hopefully his first city winner in Adelaide will be a tonic.”

Bain said winning jockey Jackson Murphy was “chips in” with the ABR stable.

“We appreciate his involvement,” the trainer said.

“His first ride for us was Dashing Double, raced by Headline Thoroughbreds, at Balaklava.

“Todd Pannell had been booked to ride but he was sick, so we put Jackson on and it was his first ride and first win for us.

“He comes down to Murray Bridge for trackwork and rides four days a week.”

“He had to be reshod at the start, not something I normally like to happen,” Murphy said.

“The race panned out well.

“I had anticipated settling in the first four and they travelled quite quick to the turn.

“I thought the leader would be vulnerable, and they have been getting off the fence, but I didn’t believe it was too bad.

“He was quite strong at the end, and he is a classy horse.

“Ned (Taylor) and Aaron (Bain) are doing a great job, and it is a privilege to be part of the team and get the results of their hard work.”
