Lightly raced Winning All Round broke through for an impressive maiden win at Strathalbyn on Wednesday, August 19.

Resuming after a short break, Winning All Round raced away from his rivals to take out the Adelaide Galvanising Industries Maiden (1300m).

Trained by Aaron Bain & Ned Taylor, and ridden by Jackson Murphy, the four-year-old, a $4.40 chance, scored by an increasing two lengths from Blazing Red ($6) with Empire Ruler ($10), a long neck away third.

Having just his fifth start, the gelding looked a potential city winner as he sprinted clear.

But his supporters might have been a little concerned on the home turn when Winning All Round, in fourth position, was pushed out of the way but another runner. However, once balanced in the home straight he lengthened quickly to race to victory.

Stable spokesman Brodie Drewett believes Winning All Round has a promising future.

“He’s a pretty handy horse, just starting to put it all together,” Drewett said.

“He has had a qui8ck letup, the owners decided to bring him back in and he has come back super.

“He came to Aaron & Ned in good order, and the penny is starting to drop now.

“I was a bit concerned when he hit a flat spot turning for home but credit to the horse and Jacko (jockey Jackson Murphy) they got going and got the job done.

“It was awesome to see and the stable believes he will get out over a trip.”

Winning jockey Jackson Murphy said Winning All Round had been powerful over the final 300 metres.

“It was tough going out there with the wind, but the horse didn’t appear to mind it,” Murphy said.

“He was in a bit of trouble on the home turn when I got moved out of the way pretty easily.

“I felt he was a racing a bit green and ungenerous.

“I thought if I waited and let the leaders do the bullocking work he could get home over the top of them late, and he did.

“He is quite a talented horse but at the moment, his mind overtakes what his body can do, and he has a good think about everything.

“The hill can bring other runners unstuck and the three leaders took off quite early.

“We got a nice park up the hill and let him get to his peak before I really went for him.

“He was quite talented late so there is a lot of upside to him.”
