ABR Weekend Preview

ABR hopes everyone had a wonderful Christmas Day but the action for our team revs up in the lead up to the New Year with three straight days of racing.

One runner for ABR at Morphettville Parks on Boxing Day, Friday, December 26.

TAINO ROCKET has accepted in race four, the M&J Chickens Four-Year-Old & Up Class One Handicap (1000m) at 4.02pm SA time.

The Grand Syndicates-owned four-year-old has drawn barrier six in an acceptance of nine with Todd Pannell to ride.

The gelding has had two runs over the Morphettville Parks 1000 metres for a win and a second.

TAINO ROCKET has been running soundly for ABR and gets his chance to be competitive again.

Three runners for ABR at the Christmas Handicap day meeting at Morphettville on Saturday, December 27.

First starter TOPTHORN is our first runner in race four, the Sportsbet Black Book Three-Year-Old Maiden (1200m) at 1.42pm SA time.

TOPTHORN has drawn barrier eight in an acceptance of 11 with Todd Pannell booked to ride.

The three-year-old has had a jump out and two trials to ready him for his debut.

TOPTHORN has been easy in early betting drifting to $16 behind the $4.20 favourite, another first starter, Navy Rok.

Another ABR newcomer CATHAY EXPRESS steps out in race five, the Hahn Three-Year-Old Maiden (1200m) at 2.17pm SA time.

The three-year-old filly has gate five in an acceptance of 12 with apprentice Taylor Johnstone to ride and claim 1.5kg.

The daughter of Alabama Express has had a trial and jump out this preparation to prepare the filly for her debut.

CATHAY EXPRESS is firm at $12 in a good betting race with the favourite Yellowjacket tumbling in from $3.15 to be at $2.15.

ABR’s final runner on Saturday is THERE GOES MY HERO in race seven, the AIG Security Handicap (1200m) at 3.27pm SA time.

THERE GOES MY HERO has drawn barrier one in an acceptance 15 with one emergency and Taylor Johnstone retains the ride claiming 1.5kg.

The five-year-old had absolutely no luck at Gawler at his most recent run and is still probably still looking for a clear run.

From his inside draw, he is no doubt going to need luck again in the home straight but is going exceptionally well.

Punters believe THERE GOES MY HERO was over the odds at his early quote of $15 and is into $12 with the favourite Florey at $6 in a wide betting race.

Sunday, ABR heads to Naracoorte with three runners.

LARGS LEGACY steps out in race two, the Kay Park Maiden (1430m) at 2.05pm SA time.

The three-year-old filly has drawn barrier 11 in an acceptance of 14 with two emergencies. Taylor Johnstone has been booked to ride.

ABR was surprised by the early pace she showed on debut at Gawler and believes she will be well suited by the step up in distance.

NAVY GOLD is next to step out in race four the Naracoorte Recyclables Benchmark 56 Handicap (2000m) at 3.20pm SA time.

Campbell Rawiller retains the ride with a barrier draw of seven in a field of 10.

The gelding had no luck from a wide draw last start and ABR knows NAVY GOLD is capable of much better, and he returns to a track where he won on debut.

LADY SKYLLA completes the day in the final event, race seven, the Naracoorte Toyota Rating 0-56 Handicap (1430m) at 5.20pm SA time.

The Grand Syndicates-owned mare has drawn gate four in an acceptance of 14 with two emergencies and Taylor Johnston is in the saddle.

LADY SKYLLA was scratched from Strathalbyn last Wednesday because of a poor gate and is much better suited on Sunday. She is also getting out to a distance which suits and ABR hopes she can prove competitive.

Harness Racing

Interesting situation for ABR at Globe Derby Park on Saturday.

MIKIS BEAUTY, unbeaten for trainer Peter Bain, with three wins, was made the emergency for the $25,000 Kevin & Kay Seymour Feature (2230m), race three at 7.42pm SA time.

Despite her imposing record, the conditions of the race enabled other horses to get a run ahead of her. She was drawn in the field at barrier eight, gate one on the second row.

Because she was an emergency, MIKIS BEAUTY was able to obtain a run later in the program, in race six, the Bianco Reinforcing Pace (2230m) at 9.25pm SA time.

The mare came up with saddlecloth 11, gate four on the back row, with Wayne Hill to drive.

Not an ideal gate, but ABR believes she has a strong chance again.

Back to the Kevin & Kay Seymour Feature, ABR will still be represented with another star mare DREAMALITTLEDREAM.

Unfortunately, she has also come up with gate 11, the outside of the back row but with Wayne Hill in the sulky, we know he will give her every chance.

DREAMALITTLEDREAM won an 1800 metre Globe Derby Park trial on December 14, rating a smart 1:57.0, in a last half of 57 seconds.

The draw makes it very tough, but ABR knows the mare is more than capable of winning with a good run.

Trainer Peter Bain will hit the road on Tuesday, December 30 heading to Mildura with two runners.

POPPY LANE, which had three runs for trainer Emma Stewart in November, will have her first start for Bain in race three the Park Douglas Printing Maiden (1790m) at 7pm SA time.

She has drawn gate two with Wayne Hill to drive.

POPPY LANE won a trial by 40 metres against trotters at Gawler on Sunday, December 21, rating 1.59.1, with a last half of 59.1 seconds.

The Bain-trained GENERAL ROCKER also won a trial at Gawler on the same day, rating 2:06.4 with a last half also of 59.1 seconds.

GENERAL ROCKER also heads to Mildura, accepting in race five the Bruce’s Bisto Pace (1790m) at 8pm SA time.

Wayne Hill will drive coming from barrier nine, three on the second row.

GENERAL ROCKER’s last run should be forgotten and ABR expects him to run well to end 2025.
