The Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club host the metropolitan meeting on Saturday and Aaron Bain Racing will have three runners at our “home” track.
First though, on Friday, we head to Morphettville for the annual twilight Christmas meeting, also with three starters.
On Saturday, a big night for ABR with the feature Breeders Crown meeting at Melton where we have six runners.
ABR kicks off at Morphettville on Friday in race three the Sportsbet Green Tick Class One Handicap (1050m) at 4.40pm SA time.
TAINO ROCKET has drawn barrier eight in a field of 13 with Todd Pannell to ride.
The Grand Syndicates-owned four-year-old has blinkers on for this race and ABR expects him to be very competitive.
Next up is ONE MORE SONG in race five the NRG Solar Fillies & Mares Rating 0-62 Handicap (1200m) at 5.53pm SA time.
Todd Pannell stays aboard and the three-year-old filly has drawn barrier one in a field of 12.
ONE MORE SONG could not have been more impressive when resuming and winning a maiden at Murray Bridge on November 19 and ABR expects her to run strongly again.
NAVY GOLD completes ABR’s day in race seven, the BTS Freight Solutions Rating 0-58 Handicap (1800m) at 6.53pm SA time.
He has come up with barrier 11 in an acceptance of 18 with two emergencies.
Top heavyweight jockey Campbell Rawiller has been booked and ABR expects him to suit NAVY GOLD perfectly.
The increase in trip is perfect for the five-year-old which was unplaced at his most recent run over 1400 metres at Murray Bridge.
ABR is delighted to welcome a new group of owners, the Port Districts Football Club, with their first runner at Gawler on Saturday.
LARGS LEGACY steps out in race one, the Magain Fielke Real Estate Gawler Handicap (1100m) at 12.27pm SA time.
The three-year-old filly, on debut, has drawn barrier five in a field of nine with Jason Holder to ride.
LARGS LEGACY has had two jump outs and a trial to ready her for Saturday’s race.
ABR likes the filly and believes she will be even better over more ground so Saturday’s race will be a great grounding going forward.
After opening at $26, there was some early support bringing her price into $20 behind the $2.10 favourite Harmonic Dancer.
THERE GOES MY HERO loves racing at Gawler and trainers Aaron Bain & Ned Taylor have deliberately kept him for Saturday’s meeting.
Unfortunately, he has come up with the extreme outside gate in a field of 10 in race six, the Ray White / Barossa Valley Two Wells Handicap (1200m) at 3.27pm SA time.
Apprentice Taylor Johnstone rides and claims 1.5kg.
THERE GOES MY HERO resumed with an unlucky second at Gawler on October 6 and since has had an easy trial at Balaklava to keep him sharp.
The draw is no help but expect the five-year-old to run well.
Early support for him as well. Opening at $17 he has firmed into $14 with the favourite Palm Of Jumeirah at $2.90.
MRS PENNY CRACKER is engaged in race nine, the Bronwen Darrall Memorial Handicap (1500m) at 5.30pm SA time.
She has drawn gate eight in an acceptance of 16 with one emergency. Taylor Johnstone rides and claims 1.5kg bringing the mare in 1kg under the minimum.
Following her maiden win at Mindarie Halidon, she was a good second at Strathalbyn and should appreciate the step up from 1350m to 1500m on Saturday.
MRS PENNY CRACKER opened at $23 firmed into $15 before easing again to $17 with the favourite Cielao heavily backed from $4 into $2.80.
Harness Racing
Aaron Bain Racing is very proud to have six runners at Saturday night’s feature Breeders Crown meeting at Melton in Victoria.
Hopefully, we can grab one or two wins, but we are happy to have been able to secure so many quality pacers to make the finals, all trained by champion mentor Emma Stewart with her partner Clayton Tonkin.
Our night starts in race two, the Group 2 Woodlands Stud Breeders Crown (2240m) for three-year-old colts & geldings at 6.36pm SA time with CAPTAIN PERFECT.
Yet again the CAPTAIN has not had any luck in the draw for a big final coming up with saddlecloth 10, gate three on the second row and will be driven by Mark Pitt.
In his heat, CAPTAIN PERFECT was able to lead throughout but Pitt knows the horse well and will give him every chance from the draw.
Betting agencies believe the colt is the horse to beat and he opened the $2 favourite.
Next up in race three, the Group 2 Hyland Racing Colours Breeders Crown (2240m) for two-year-old fillies at 7.05pm SA time, ABR has three runners, ONE MILLIE, DEGARMEA TEALE and HILLTOP STAR.
An all-the-way winner in her heat, ONE MILLIE has drawn gate three and will be driven by Cam Hart while DEGARMEA TEALE, third in her heat, has gate six with Jackie Barker in the sulky.
HILLTOP STAR faces a tough contract with a back row draw, likely to start from four off the inside with Ryan Sanderson to drive.
A winner of two of her three starts, ONE MILLIE ran good time with her victory last Friday night while DEGARMEA TEALE was a creditable third. HILLTOP STAR was a handy fourth.
Betting agencies bet as much as $7.50 about ONE MILLIE and she is now into $5.50 behind the favourite, stablemate Bettor Beach, which is $1.75.
DEGARMEA TEALE is $61 in early betting and HILLTOP STAR at $101.
VicBred Super Series winner BEACH DIAMOND is next for ABR in race six, the Group 2 Nutrien Equine Breeders Crown (2240m) at 8.37pm SA time. She has drawn the outside of the front row in gate seven with Cam Hart to drive.
The filly was an unlucky second in her farcically run heat hitting the line powerfully, and despite her draw, looks a strong winning hope.
Betting agencies opened BEACH DIAMOND at $2.40 but heavy support pushed her price into $1.75.
Is it a case of saving the best for last?
ABR’s final runner for the meeting is LOUCASSO in race nine, the final event, the Group 2 IRT Breeders Crown (2240m) for two-year-old colts and geldings at 10.17pm SA time.
An all-the-way winner in his heat from a wide draw, LOUCASSO has come up with the coveted barrier one on Saturday in the final and will be driven by Mark Pitt.
No doubt the colt is a star with six wins from his eight starts and gets the chance to add another victory.
Betting agencies would be surprised if LOUCASSO was to be beaten as he is a $1.12 chance in markets.
ABR’s two Queensland-trained mares IMA QUEEN BEE and SWEET MIA accepted in race three, the Garrards Horse & Hounds Mares Open (1660m) at 7.16pm SA time but the latter was scratched on Thursday.
IMA QUEEN BEE, which drew the outside of the back row last week, has come up the prized gate one on Saturday.
Trained by Chantal Turpin, the mare will be driven by young reinsman Tom Callaghan.
South Australia’s main harness meeting for the weekend is on Monday where MIKIS BEAUTY will attempt to remain unbeaten for trainer Peter Bain and driver Wayne Hill with her third straight victory.
She is in race three, the Ladbrokes Popular SRM Pace (1800m) at 2.14pm SA time coming from barrier four.
ABR would be hoping the mare can find the front and win again.
