It is hard to believe the Melbourne Cup week is upon us already starting on Saturday.
Four big days of racing at Flemington. ABR won’t have a runner in this carnival, but we are aiming to be a player next year. Instead, we are well represented locally.
In 2025, ABR will have runners at the four SA meetings – two at Morphettville, one at Gawler rounding out with Morphettville Parks.
Two runners for ABR at Morphettville on Saturday.
HIGH GARDEN, which missed a run last Saturday when the meeting was abandoned because of lightning in the area, lines up in race seven, the Sherriff Electrical Wholesalers 50th Year Handicap (1600m) at 3.22pm SA time.
The mare has drawn gate three in an acceptance of 17 but already there have been three scratchings.
Jason Holder has been booked.
HIGH GARDEN ran a solid fourth behind the promising Anthracite over 1800m at her most recent run on September 13 and since has had an 800-metre trial at Morphettville Parks to keep her fitness right.
Betting agencies opened HIGH GARDEN at $10, and she has moved slightly to $9.50 with the favourite Pelevecchio well backed at $3.40.
TAINO ROCKET is ABR’s other runner for the Grand Syndicates team in race eight, the Dave Loy Handicap (1050m) at 4.03pm SA time.
He has drawn gate nine in an acceptance of 17 but there have already been three scratchings, one drawn inside him.
Jason Holder takes the ride.
TAINO ROCKET ran really well first up for ABR when second at Morphettville Parks over 1000 metres caught late by a swooper.
He has a win and second from four runs at the trip.
TAINI ROCKET is quoted at $9 in early markets with the favourite Isla’s Fury at $4.50 in an open betting race.
A big 10-race card at Morphettville on Melbourne Cup day with four runners for ABR.
Our first runner is not until race six when UTAH lines up in the San Remo NMWLY Benchmark 64 Handicap (1800m), a heat of the Sportsbet Restricted Series at2.52pm SA time.
Jason Holder will take the ride jumping from gate one in a field of 12.
UTAH was not really helped by the track bias last start at Balaklava but ran very well for a second in quick time and looks well placed to be competitive on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, ABR has two runners in the same event, the Aceit Transport Solutions C, G & E Benchmark 62 Handicap (1200m), race eight at 4.17pm SA time, a heat of the Sportsbet Riziz series.
THERE GOES MY HERO will jump from gate one in an acceptance of 14 with apprentice Matthew Chadwick to ride and claim 2kg off his weight of 60.5kg.
Trainers Aaron Bain & Ned Taylor have kept him fresh following an excellent first-up second over 1100 metres at Gawler and have no doubt he will sprint home strongly.
Our other runner is NAVY GOLD which is resuming from a spell and has drawn barrier eight with Jason Holder to ride.
The five-year-old hasn’t raced since May but has had two trials to ready him for Tuesday.
He is a first up winner previously and also has a win at the trip. ABR will be looking for a strong finish.
DON’T DOUBTLAYLA completes our day in race nine, the Equipped Group Fillies & Mares Benchmark 62 Handicap (1200m), a heat of the Sportsbet Viddora Series, at 4.57pm SA time.
The diminutive mare has drawn barrier 14 in a field of 15 and Todd Pannell has been engaged.
DON’T DOUBTLAYLA hasn’t raced since September but did win a recent Strathalbyn trial over 1200 metres in good style.
She showed a lot more early speed in that trial and ABR is looking forward to having her back at the races.
No Globe Derby Park meeting on Saturday in South Australia, but ABR has runners interstate.
At Melton, NO NOTTHEBUTTONS represents ABR in race four, the Hertz Melton Plate (2240m) at 7.47pm SA time.
He has drawn barrier two in a field of eight with Allan McDonough to drive.
The distance suits ‘Buttons’ which won well at Melton two starts back.
Early markets have NO NOTTHEBUTTONS AT $4.50 with Rakajed favourite at $3.20.
At Albion Park, IMA QUEEN BEE runs in race five, the Garrards Horse & Hound Mares Band 5 Pace (1660m) at 8.30pm SA time.
The mare has drawn gate 10, barrier three on the second row for trainer Chantal Turpin and driver Pete McMullen.
She came from a back row draw last week at Albion Park when a handy fifth.
IMA QUEEN BEE has opened at $5.50 with Credulous the favourite at $2.20 coming from gate two off the front row.
No runners for ABR at the Globe Derby Park meeting on Monday.
