Aaron Bain Racing’s outstanding October continued over the weekend with the successful return to racing of stable star SHADY THINKER.
Superbly ridden by top jockey Jason Holder, SHADY THINKER produced a performance at Morphettville on Saturday which gives great hope the four-year-old has an excellent campaign ahead.

On Sunday, the winning run continued with MRS PENNY CRACKER breaking her maiden at Mindarie Halidon with a nice effort.
A heavily backed $1.6 favourite, Mrs Penny Cracker was beautifully ridden by Taylah Jonstone to finish best and grab a three-quarter length victory in the Murray Pioneer, Radio 801-5RM, Radio 5MU-PowerFM Maiden (1380m).
Trainer Aaron Bain said Mrs Penny Cracker deserved her maiden victory.
“It was nice to finally break her maiden,” Bain said.
“It was her fourth run for us and good to see her break through.
“I was a little bit worried around the 800 (metres), but she picked up the bridle and won really well, I loved her last 100 metres.”
On the harness front, ABR produced an outstanding two-year-old ONE MILLIE which won her heat of the Golden Nursery at Globe Derby Park.
Trained by Peter Bain, and driven by Wayne Hill, ONE MILLIE, having her first start, ran an outstanding final quarter of 26.9 seconds – the fastest quarter recorded by a two-year-old at the track.
ABR looks forward to watching her again in this Saturday’s Golden Nursery Final.
At Melton, it wasn’t to be in the two Group 1 fixtures the Victoria Oaks and Victoria Derby.
Buit ABR could not be prouder of our runners BEACH DIAMOND and CAPTAIN PERFECT which both ran second and turned in amazingly tough performances and lost no admirers – probably gained more.
On Sunday, harness racing switched to Gawler and DREAMALITTLEDREAM made it five straight wins with victory in the Ladbrokes Quick Multi Pace (2070m) which was heat two of a race leading up to a $20,000 final at Globe Derby Park on Saturday.
Driver Wayne Hill made an early move from a back row draw to find the front and dictate the tempo for a good win.
Going forward, it is going to be a very busy weekend on the thoroughbred front.
ABR starts Friday with the Gawler Cup meeting at our home track, on to Morphettville on Saturday, then a trip to Clare on Sunday.
We are hoping for favourable draws in the $107,500 Holdfast Insurance Brokers Gawler Cup (1500m) because we believe our nominations DUAL PRESSURE and LOUNGE BAR RUBI both have the talent to win.
Saturday night at Globe Derby Park is another highlight with South Australia’s biggest night of harness racing and ABR has ONE MILLIE in the Listed $25,000 Golden Nursery Stakes (1800m).
ABR is excited about where SHADY THINKER can take his career.
The four-year-old returned to racing on Saturday and proved his quality.
SHADY THINKER overcame a potential traffic jam to return a winner at Morphettville.
In front of a rowdy and joyous group of owners, SHADY THINKER, trained by Aaron Bain & Ned Taylor and backed from $3.20 to start $2.50 favourite, dashed between runners to win the Freeman Wauchope Timber Celebrating 100 Years Handicap (1200m).
After settling third on the inside early, jockey Jason Holder found himself behind and inside runners turning for home.
Being a top jockey, Holder came off the inside and navigated a path between runners over the final 200 metres to enable SHADY THINKER to dash through and score a half-length win from Zunna ($5.50) with Speedtail ($14) a similar margin away third.
Winning trainer Aaron Bain said SHADY THINKER, a winner of three of his four starts, was an exciting galloper.
“He was really good, he is a true professional,” Bain said.
“He jumped good, mustered speed and got the spot behind the leader.
“Stubby (Jason Holder) had to be patient at the top of the straight but he just wants to win this horse.
“Stubby had to be careful and bide his time to get through, let him balance up but he was brilliant over the last 100 metres.
“He is just a classy horse.
“At present we are happy to work our way through the grades.”
Winning jockey Jason Holder said SHADY THINKER has the potential of a quality galloper.
“He’s got ability, he is a pleasure to ride,” Holder said.
“Aaron and Ned train him really well and after a couple of trials we came here confident.
“I thought today I had to ride him to get the 1200 (metres), and he did that really well.
“I had to come between runners to make a challenge in the straight.
“I thought his run was full of merit because I needed him to find two lengths to win the race.
“A shout out to Darren Thomas, the horse races in his colours and he is a great supporter of racing and a pleasure to ride for.”
