Weekend Preview

Aaron Bain Racing looks forward to a fabulous weekend of racing hoping for feature race successes.

Only the one runner at Morphettville on Saturday, but what a runner.

Stable star SHADY THINKER returns to racing in race eight, the Freeman Wauchope Timber Celebrating 100 Years Handicap (1200m) at 4.12pm SA time.

The four-year-old, by star sire So You Think, has drawn barrier two in a field of 11 with Jason Holder to ride.

SHADY THINKER has not raced since the end of March after wins at his first two starts.

The gelding has had two trials to ready him for his return to racing today.

He stretched his legs in a Murray Bridge run before a super trial win at Balaklava over 1000m.

As much as $3.30 was bet early about SHADY THINKER who has firmed into $3.10 favouritism.

Sunday sees ABR head out to the famous Mindarie Halidon race meeting where we hope to see MRS PENNY CRACKER win her maiden.

She is in race one, the Murray Pioneer, Radio 801-5RM, 5MU-PowerFM Maiden (1380m) at 1.25pm SA time.

Apprentice Taylor Johnstone has the ride and MRS PENNY CRACKER has drawn barrier four in a field of nine.

The five-year-old mare was an excellent closing third over 1200 metres at Gawler at her last run, when ridden by Johnstone, so the extra trip looks perfect on Sunday.

Trainers Aaron Bain & Ned Taylor took six horses to the Morphettville Parks trials on Thursday.

Included was the New Zealand gelding STARSCREAM which has impressed in his work since arriving from the shaky isles and did well over 800 metres, a trip way too short for him.

Harness Racing

Victoria’s biggest night of harness racing on Saturday and ABR has runners in two of the big Group One races.

Unfortunately, both BEACH DIAMOND and CAPTAIN PERFECT drew the back row in their respective races so now it will be up to the drivers, and an ounce of luck, for success.

Top two-year-old SHORELINE DREAM starts our night at Melton in race two, the IRT Shakamaker Classic (1720m) at 6.29pm SA time.

The last-start Globe Derby Park Sapling Stakes winner has drawn barrier one and will be driven by Mark Pitt.

The colt has been assessed at $12 with the favourite his stablemate, the first5 starterr Most Exciting at $2.50.

BEACH DIAMOND then lines up in race three, the $150,000 Group 1 Prydes Easifeed Victoria Oaks (2760m) at 7pm SA time.

She will come from barrier eight, gate one on the second row with Cameron Hart in the sulky.

It is a good trailing draw with My Little Bo, in gate one, having excellent gate speed and the possible leader.

Interestingly, Group 1 winner Soho Americano which finished second to the ABR filly last week has been installed the $2.30 Oaks favourite with BEACH DIAMOND at $5.50.

Then it is CAPTAIN PERFECT’s time to contest race five, the $150,000 Group 1 Woodlands Stud Victoria Derby (2760m) at 8.17pm SA time.

He has drawn poorly in barrier 12, gate five on the second row.

It will take a great drive by Mark Pitt for the CAPTAIN to win but from last week’s heats, ABR is confident he is certainly good enough with the right run.

Early markets have CAPTAIN PERFECT at $13 because of his draw with the favourite, stablemate Fox Dan, which comes from gate one at $2.60.

Next up is star mare KISS which will contest the Group 3 $50,000 Hertz Melton Ladyship Cup (1720m), race eight at 9.54pm SA time.

She had no luck with the drawing the extreme outside of the front row wearing saddlecloth seven with Ryan Sanderson in the sulky.

There is a saying that horses run well on the same night each year, and if that is true, last year KISS was a brave second to stablemate COASTAL BABE in the Victoria Oaks.

Despite the draw, the mare is a great chance having been an impressive Melton winner on October 4.

KISS has been $1.95 into $1.90 favourite.

ABR’s Melton night concludes in the final event, race nine, the Australian Pacing Gold Pace 1720m) at 10.23pm SA time.

NO NOTTHEBUTTONS will run, and he also had no luck in the draw coming up with gate seven, the outside of the front row, with Allan McDonough keep the drive.

He steered NO NOTTHEBUTTONS to a strong win last week as a red hot $1.30 fav.

On Saturday, he an easing $4.50 with the big money for Miki Cohen, from New South Wales, $1.90 into $1.75 favourite.

Globe Derby Park is also huge for ABR with the heats of South Australian feature races.

ONE MILLIE makes her race debut for trainer Peter Bain and driver Wayne Hill in heat one of the Alabar SA BOTRA Golden Nursery (1800m), race six at 8.40pm SA time.

She has drawn gate one and has trialled brilliantly in preparation for her race debut.

OPEN THE GATES an easy winner at Port Pirie last start, lines up in heat two of the Alabar SA BOTRA Golden Nursery (1800m), race seven at 9.15pm SA time.

Again, Peter Bain is the trainer and Wayne Hill the driver.

REACH THE PEAK completes ABR’s night in heat two of the Kevin & Kay Seymour SA Pacing Derby, race nine at 10/15pm SA time.

He has drawn barrier eight, gate one on the second row also for the Bain-Hill combination.

REACH THE PEAK looks a strong chance of qualifying for next week’s final.

At Albion Park, IMA QUEEN BEE runs for ABR in race 10, the Garrards Horse & Hounds Mares Band 5 Pace (1660m) at 10.55pm SA time.

Trained by Chantal Turpin and to be driven by Pete McMullen, IMA QUEEN BEE will start from gate six.

On Sunday, the Gawler Harness Racing Club holds its Platinum Cup meeting.

ABR will be represented in race three the Ladbrokes Quick Multi Pace (2070m) by DREAMALITTLEDREAM at 4pm SA time.

Trained by Peter Bain and to be driven by Wayne Hill, the mare will be out to make it five wins straight.

It is the heat of a race with a final at Globe Derby Park.
