ABR Weekend Preview

An exciting and busy weekend for Aaron Bain Racing with runners in both codes around Australia as the feature races appear in the calendar.

On the thoroughbred side, ABR will be at the twilight Morphettville Parks on Friday, then Murray Bridge for the Cup meeting on Saturday.

At Morphettville Parks, trainers Aaron Bain & Ned Taylor have two runners.

BULLET WING has accepted in race six the Sportsbet Blackbook NMWLY Benchmark 62 Handicap (1500m) at 5.54pm SA time.

The seven-year-old has drawn barrier one in a field of 12 with Matt Chadwick to ride and claim 2kg off the weight of 61kg.

BULLET WING has an excellent second up record and didn’t have much luck when resuming at Bordertown on September 12 when finishing fifth.

Friday’s race is a heat of the Sportsbet Restricted Series which will culminate in a final at Morphettville next month.

ABR’s other runner is TAINO ROCKET, which is in race seven, the Sportsbet Get On Extra Rating 0-56 Handicap (1000m) at 6.24pm SA time.

A Grand Syndicates-owned galloper, TAINO ROCKET will be having his first run for ABR after joining the stable mid-year.

The four-year-old has had two nice trials to ready him for a return to racing and is a winner over the track and trip.

Senior rider Todd Pannell has been booked to ride.

It is Thomas Farms Murray Bridge Cup day on Saturday and ABR has three acceptors.

Stable star DUBAI FOCUS returns to racing in race four, the Marshall & Brougham Constructions Reg Nolan Flying (1200m) at 2.17pm SA time.

The four-year-old has drawn gate one in a field of seven with Victorian jockey Craig Newitt booked to ride.

DUBAI FOCUS has not raced since finishing midfield in the SA Derby over 2500 metres in May.

He trialled quite nicely at Murray Bridge on September 18.

The gelding has an excellent first-up record but runs into some strong opposition on Saturday.

The race is a heat of the Gytrash Series with a final at Morphettville next month.

Betting agencies have DUBAI FOCUS at $10 with the favourite Fancify at $2.20.

ABR doesn’t like to have their runners clash, but it will happen in race nine, the Sportsbet Same Race Multi Handicap (1400m) at 5.28pm SA time.

LOUNGE BAR RUBI and DUAL PRESSURE are numbers one and two in an acceptance of 19 which includes three emergencies.

Apprentice Taylor Johnstone will claim 2kg on LOUNGE BAR RUBI off his weight of 63kg but has drawn the extreme outside gate of 19.

Jason Holder rides DUAL PRESSURE which has come up with barrier 13.

LOUNGE BAR RUBI hit the line nicely when first up for ABR around Morphettville Parks. He is a get-back runner soi should appreciate the spacious Murray Bridge circuit and the long run in.

The gelding is a $31 outsider in early betting.

DUAL PRESSURE, after two runs from a break, is ready to put his best hoof forward and is another which will be suited by the track and trip.

He was an excellent and unlucky fourth at Morphettville Parks at his last start.

DUAL PRESSURE is steady at $7 in betting with the favourite Zunna at $4.40.

Harness Racing Update

What a weekend of harness action for ABR.

On Friday night at Melton NO NOTTHEBUTTONS has accepted in race eight, the VHRC Pace (1720m) at 9.05pm SA time.

He has drawn barrier eight, gate one on the second row in a field of eight and will be driven by Allan McDonough.

NO NOTTHEBUTTONS came from the same draw when an unlucky second at Melton at his most recent run.

He looks a strong winning chance on Friday.

At Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday, ABR’s star HEZA PUNK ROCKER is engaged in race two, the Bestinbeds.Com.Au Pace (1609m) at 6.27pm SA time.

He is drawn in gate eight in a field of 10 with Cameron Hart to drive.

Unbeaten two-year-old filly DEGARMEA TEALE has drawn gate three in a field of 10 in race five, the Nutrien Equine NSW Breeders Challenge (1609m) at 8.05pm SA time.

Cameron Hart will drive as ABR hopes she qualifies for the Group 1 $150,000 final on Saturday, October 25.

At Melton in Victoria, the heats of the Oaks and Derby are a feature.

Star filly BEACH DIAMOND kicks off in race one, the Prydes Victoria Oaks (2760m), heat one at 5.29pm SA time.

She has drawn gate three in a field of eight with Mark Pitt to drive.

BEACH DIAMOND has won her past three starts, the most recent the Tasmanian Oaks.

She is a $1.40 favourite on Saturday and, as her price indicates, looks a strong winning chance.

Three-year-old colt CAPTAIN PERFECT is our next runner in race four, the Woodlands Stud Victoria Derby (2760m), heat one, at 7.11pm SA time.

He has drawn poorly in gate seven, the outside of the front row in a field of 10 and also will be driven by Mark Pitt.

CAPTAIN PERFECT won the Tasmanian Derby at his most recent run and looks well suited by the staying trip. He will need a top three finish to qualify for the final.

He is a $10 chance in a strong heat with Our Sweet Delight the favourite at $1.95.

Heading north to Albion Park in Brisbane, SWEET MIA will attempt to make it two wins in a row in race eight, the Lunchbox Lodge Spelling Farm Mares Band 5 Pace (1660m) at 9.49pm SA time.

She will carry saddlecloth 10 starting from gate three on the second row for trainer Chantal Turpin

On Wednesday, ABR was able to celebrate a win by HILLTOP BLOSSOM, trained by Peter Bain, at Globe Derby Park.

Driven by Wayne Hill, HILLTOP BLOSSOM was a bit awkward around the first turn but recovered and was then never seriously challenged in winning the Ladbrokes Top 2/3/4 Betting Pace (1800m).

Only a two-year-old filly racing against older horses, the filly won by four metres rating 1:59.0.

Bred and owned by the matriarch of the Bain family, Val, HILLTOP BLOSSOM can certainly win better races.
