Weekend Review

Aaron Bain Racing will head to Morphettville on Wednesday with just the one runner.

Consistent mare OH LOVEY NO gets her chance for an initial victory in race one, The Fotobase Group Maiden (2037m) at 1.30pm SA time.

The five-year-old mare has drawn barrier four in a field of nine and will be ridden by apprentice Matthew Chadwick who claims 2kg which brings her in 2kg under the minimum.

Chadwick has been a regular rider of OH LOVEY NO and was aboard when she was an excellent third at Strathalbyn last start making up very good late ground.

Wednesday’s race looks ideal and ABR expects the mare to be very competitive.

ABR is always looking forward and is excited about a busy weekend.

The plan is to have thoroughbred runners at both the Morphettville Parks metro meeting in Adelaide and the country races at Mildura in Victoria.

ABR has been looking forward to the Tasmanian Derby and Oaks harness meeting at Hobart on Sunday and we hopefully will have good representation in each of the features.

Of course, the absolute highlight will be the $2 million TAB Eureka (2300m) at TABCorp Park Menangle in Sydney on Saturday.

ABR, in conjunction with our good friends Summit Bloodstock, was proud to win the inaugural running of the world’s richest harness race, in 2023 with the SA-bred and owned mare ENCIPHER, trained by Emma Stewart.

This year, we are again represented by a Stewart-trained runner, MIKI TO SUCCESS, one of four runners the champion trainer will have running in the Eureka.

MIKI TO SUCCESS proved he was worthy of a start rating an excellent 1:52.5 in winning at Menangle on August 23.

The colt is a winner of 12 of his 28 starts.

With six three-year-olds in the race, the draw was never going to be that kind to our Eureka runner.

But it was disappointing that he has come up with saddlecloth 14, the extreme outside gate.

There are four emergencies so he should come into gate 10 but it is still a poor draw, and he is going to need a bit of luck.

Pre-draw MIKI TO SUCCESS was a $4.80 third favourite in early markets behind Fighter Command ($3.50) and Bay of Biscay ($4).

Post-draw, Fighter Command has retained favouritism at $3.50 with Bay Of Biscay drifting to $4.50, Hesitate (from gate two) at $5 and MIKI TO SUCCESS easing to $6.

ABR Weekend Star

METRICAL was a star performer on Saturday and he has been a great advertisement for being involved with Aaron Bain Racing.

Purchased for just $27,500, METRICAL has collected $140,950 in stakes since joining ABR in 11 starts.

On Saturday, he was trapped three and four wide throughout in the UrbanVirons Handicap (1200m) at Morphettville and ran gamely eventually finishing fourth, beaten 3.44 lengths.

The six-year-old now heads to the paddock for a well-deserved spell.

He had two wins, three seconds and a fourth from six starts this preparation collecting $127,250 in stakes.

Trainers Aaron Bain & Ned Taylor are indicating the gelding will have a very good spell with races such as the Hills Railway Stakes at Oakbank and the Wangoom Handicap at Warrnambool as possible targets next year.

ABR is always on the lookout for potential bargain buys online, so it can pay to check our website for new purchases.
