Aaron Bain Racing has our first two-year-old runner for the season at Morphettville on Saturday.
WOODSTOCK is one of three runners for ABR at South Australia’s metro meeting.
The two-year-old gelding was bred and is part owned by the Pipeliner Bloodstock company of Wayne Mitchell, owner of our training base, Angaston Park.
WOODSTOCK has drawn barrier two in a field of nine in the opening event, the Sportsbet Jockey Watch Handicap (1050m) at 12.27pm SA time.
He will be ridden by Jason Holder who was aboard the gelding when an excellent second in a 600 metre jump out at Morphettville on January 21.
WOODSTOCK has trained on nicely and ABR expects him to be competitive in a good quality field.
After opening at $11 there has been some support for the gelding, and he has firmed to $9 with La Roux the hot favourite at $1.65.
Last start Murray Bridge winner, albeit narrowly, EL CAPONY steps out in race six, the Adelaide Galvanising Industries Handicap (1200m) at 3.22pm SA time.
Manoel Nunes stays in the saddle and the mare has drawn gate eight in a field of 11.
EL CAPONY is a talented mare but has shown a tendency to lay in when making her run. No doubt Nunes will time her run to perfection and have his ‘persuader’ in his left hand.
After opening at $7.50, EL CAPONY drifted to $10 before coming into $9.50 in an open betting race.
ABR’s day concludes in the final event, race nine, the Grand Syndicates Handicap (1050m) at 5.18pm SA time.
OVEREXTEND has drawn barrier 14 in a field of 17, with one emergency.
Apprentice Taylor Johnstone has been booked to ride and claim 2kg off his weight of 61kg.
The gelding had absolutely no luck when second, first up, at Penola on January 17.
Saturday’s field is tough but OVEREXTEND has won twice with one second from five runs second up in a preparation. He also has four wins and three seconds from 14 runs at the distance.
Punters thought the opening price of $26 for OVEREXTEND was over the odds support saw his price tumble into $16, again in a wide betting race.
