ABR Weekend Preview

The countdown is on to the social event of 2025, the Aaron Bain Racing Gala Dinner.

Next Friday, February 7 sees champion jockeys Glen Boss and Damien Oliver as the special guests at the ABR event.

This year’s Gala Dinner is being held in the Wolf Blass ‘The Man’ Event Centre at Morphettville racecourse.

Close to 300 people have accepted for the ABR Gala Dinner which will have famed broadcaster Terry McAuliffe as the Master Of Ceremonies.

Among the attendees this year include representatives from both major political parties indicating the respect officials have for the ABR Gala Dinner.

Also, there are a number of owners flying in from interstate for the night.

A highlight of the evening will be the naming of ABR’s stars of 2024 including the Horse Of The Year.

The initial ABR HOTY was the million-dollar pacer SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS, now racing in the United States.

Just one runner BEACH PAD, for ABR at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.

The four-year-old has drawn gate 11 in a field of 12 in race nine, the Thomas Farms Handicap (1250m) at 5.18pm SA time.

BEACH PAD comes to ABR from Western Australia where he had a win, second and third from just seven starts.

His maiden win was over 1412 metres at Pinjarra, then three starts later he finished midfield in the WA Derby.

The gelding trialled nicely when second over 1050 metres at Oakbank on December 24.

Jason Holder takes the ride on BEACH PAD and ABR would expect him to finish on strongly and we look forward to stepping him out over more ground in the preparation.

After opening at $8, the gelding drifted out to $10 with Fine Future the favourite at $4.80 in an open affair.

Two runners for ABR at Globe Derby Park.

CHRISLYNN, our only runner so far in 2025, and a winner for trainer Aaron Bain, has drawn gate six in race five, the Eco-Wise Plumbing Group Pace (2230m) at 7.59pm SA time.

Owned by the Ladies Club, CHRISLYNN was impressive resuming from a spell, and no doubt reinsman Wayne Hill will have to go back early and hope she can round up her rivals.

ABR’s other runner is a newcomer to SA, former New Zealander LIZZIE SHELBY.

The four-year-old mare will come from barrier three in race seven, the Kevin & Kay Seymour Pace (1800m) at 8.33pm SA time. Wayne Hill will be in the sulky.

LIZZIE SHELBY had six starts in the Shaky Isles for two seconds and a third.

The mare finished fourth in a trial at Gawler last Sunday and ABR hopes she can break through for her initial success on Saturday.
